God Gave Me Far Better That What I've Requested For

I asked for health that I might do greater things;

I was given personal failing that I might do better things.

I asked for strength that I might achieve;

I was given weakened that I might learn to follow.

I asked for wealth that I might be happy;

I was given poverty that I might be wise.

I asked for power and praise of men;

I was given life that I might enjoy all things.

I got nothing to ask for and everything to hope for;

Yet in spite of having been deprived of all I asked for, in my heart...

I am thankful that God has given me

More than what I have asked for.
